Building Understanding and Empowering Stewardship Throughout Construction
At Areté Collective, our approach to creating new communities centers on respecting the rich history of the land, honoring its natural beauty, and protecting the native and endangered species that call it home.
Building responsibly starts long before construction. Working with leading experts, we’ve developed comprehensive environmental and cultural training that team members and contractors must complete prior to stepping on-site. These programs cultivate responsibility and stewardship at every level, reinforcing the protective and proactive measures already in place.
As part of the environmental training, participants learn about the state and federal requirements for protected animals, such as the Hawaiian monk seal, as well as step-by-step response protocols if any are encountered during construction. Beyond species awareness, the training emphasizes that everyday actions have a real impact, from proper waste management and pet-free worksites to shielding lights to protect nesting turtles or fledgling seabirds.
OUR RECORD OF RESPECT:
- 150+ employees and contractors trained
- Daily shoreline monitoring for protected species by Hawaii Marine Animal Response
- Monthly flora and fauna jobsite monitoring by AECOS
- Restoring sand dunes and native plants to create a more resilient shoreline
- Preserving 70% of the project area as open space
